Despite the heat of the day the mature London Plane trees along Charlotte Street provide lots of shade under their huge canopies. The section of Charlotte Street between Goodge Street and Tottenham Street has a number of beautiful London Planes.
As well as being physically appealing they help to shade and cool the street in the middle of summer, trap dust, absorb pollutants and reduce noise.
On the Westminster side of Fitzrovia, West End ward councillor, Jonathan Glanz reported to residents on Tuesday evening that there would be more tree planting taking place this autumn along Fitzrovia’s Westminster streets. He also announced plans for a “Noho Forest”, a name which drew groans of derision from residents.
Around St Giles’ circus eight semi-mature London planes are threatened with felling to make way for the commercial developments around the Tottenham Court Road station.
There will be a Camden green summit on Saturday 17 July at Parliament Hill School.
