Venezuelan Latin and jazz singer Maria Rivas will perform “Una Pepiada Queen para Aldemaro” tonight at The Bolivar Hall in Grafton Way.
The concert is a homage to Aldemaro Romero the Venezuelan pianist, composer, arranger and orchestral conductor who died in 2007.
Romero was a prolific composer, working in many genres Caribbean, Jazz, Venezuelan waltzes, as well as chamber music, and symphonic works. He founded the Caracas Philharmonic Orchestra in 1979, and was its first conductor.
His musical career began as a pianist with dance orchestras, as part of the Caracas nightlife of the 1940s. He travelled around the world working with internationally acclaimed artists. Romero is considered the creator of the Venezuelan genre ‘Onda Nueva’, or New-Wave, which derives from Venezuelan Joropo and Brazilian Bossa Nova.
María Rivas also started her musical career singing in Caracas’ nightlife scene, but over the past 25 years she has entertained audiences around the world, Her unique style combines Venezuelan roots with European and African influences which blend into a new style of Latin Jazz mixed with Tropical Folk.
