Police closed a cycle lane on a busy stretch of Tottenham Court Road this morning for safety reasons after several cyclists sustained injuries after skidding and falling on the road.

Police and ambulances.
Police cordoned off a cycle lane after new white lines and a wet surface caused cyclists to skid.

A combination of freshly painted white lines and a shower of rain caused the edge of the cycle lane and other road markings to become very slippery.

Police officers stood warning cyclists of the danger and directing them away from the slippery white lines while two ambulances attended the scene.

The cycle lane is along a busy east-west cycle route between Torrington Place and Howland Street through Fitzrovia which connects Bloomsbury and Marylebone.
