Marylebone Farmers’ Market was doing good trade this Sunday (17 April) despite many people having left London for the Easter break.

The market is now well established having traded in the car park behind Marylebone High Street since 2003. It gets a regular stream of customers and the High Street is often clogged with motor-vehicle traffic as a result.

I don’t know why more people don’t walk or cycle down there. It’s an easy and pleasant stroll or ride down to the market which is held every Sunday.

I sampled some of the apples and pears at Perry Court Farm‘s stall which has been at the market since it was established. I was very impressed with their no-nonsense range of good, honest fruit and veg. There are no pretensions here, the prices are very good and the produce is packed full of flavour.

The apple and pear samples I tried were delicious. Although not in season they are kept in perfect conditions on the farm which has its own storage facility. I also tried some of their unique air-dried apple crisps which are made on the farm by one of the Fermor family who run it. I say unique because they are the only product of their kind in the UK.

Cherry Fermor told me they encourage shoppers to try their fruit before they buy and they have lots of free samples going (which I helped myself to). The family-run farm is based just north of Ashford in the heart of the Kent countryside where they also have their own farm shop.
