Forty-three years after he first made his debut, Saatchi & Saatchi’s Pregnant Man is back. This time he is sitting on a mule in the window the of ad agency’s Charlotte Street building with the announcement: “Nothing is Impossible this Christmas”.
An informative sign reads:
In 1970 Jeremy Sinclair, a young copywriter at Saatchi & Saatchi, created the Pregnant Man ad for the Health Education Council to promote the use of contraceptives with the line, “Would you be more careful if it was you that got pregnant?” The groundbreaking and controversial ad helped build the reputation of Saatchi & Saatchi from the outset, quickly becoming synonymous with the agency and our “Nothing is Impossible” approach — we named our agency pub the Pregnant Man as a daily reminder of who we are. 43 years on, the Pregnant Man image is not as shocking as it once was, but the message is still as valid. So this year, we’ve given the Pregnant Man a new role, as the star of our very own nativity scene.
While not as shocking as it was in 1970, maybe, we found one source who took offence. The website ProtectThePope.com was not impressed.
