Pollock’s toy shop will be open late for Christmas shopping for one night only in December, and customers can enjoy some free mince pies, mulled wine, gingerbread men, and view a traditional puppet show. The Toy Shop is located within Pollock’s Toy Museum on the corner of Scala Street and Whitfield Street.

“The late night opening will be an ideal opportunity to buy some unique but traditional Christmas presents and stocking fillers,” says shop assistant June.
“And the puppet show,” says owner Eddy Fawdry, “will take you on a trip back through time, several hundred years ago to the puppet plays that were part of the Bartholomew Fair in Smithfield.”
The puppet play will be performed using short-string Marionette puppets just like the travelling shows in the seventeenth century. And for many visitors to the museum and shop the experience of stepping in to the building itself is like taking a trip back several centuries through time.
It is a one-off among London´s hundreds of museums and gift shops. “Pollock’s, run now by the grandson of the founder, may possibly be the worst curated museum in London but that is somehow part of its charm,” said one visitor from Australia.
