An exhibition of around a 100 images of local people will be held next week, and visitors will be asked to vote for their favourite portraits which will then be transformed into street artworks later in the year.

Rome-born photographer Doralba Picerno took the photographs as part of a project by Community Interest Company Fitzrovia Noir to capture the vast array of local cultures and nationalities, by producing up to 140 portraits of Fitzrovia characters.
The project called “140 Characters of Less” after the Twitter character limit posed the question: “What value does a photograph now hold in the digital world?”
The photographs will be exhibited at Fitzrovia Community Centre and online and visitors are asked to choose their favourite images.
The most popular 12-15 images will then be made into painted artworks on TfL traffic utility boxes in Fitzrovia by street artists who will also lead workshops with pupils at All Souls Primary School. The finished artworks will be incorporated into an art trail map including galleries and points of artistic interest in Fitzrovia this summer.
“140 Characters or Less” will be exhibited at Fitzrovia Community Centre, 2 Foley Street, London W1W 6DL, from Tuesday 7 April until Friday 10 April 2015, open to the public from 10 am until 5pm daily. Produced and curated by Lucieta Williams and Garry Hunter for Fitzrovia Noir Community Interest Company, with an award from the Derwent London Community Fund and support from The Fitzrovia Partnership.
