A planning appeal has been submitted to try to overturn Camden Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for a controversial underground hotel on the corner of Great Russell Street and Adeline Place.

Brutalist building.
Camden Council rejected plans by Criterion Capital to create a 166 room hotel four and five floors underground but the decision will now be reviewed by a planning inspector.

Criterion Capital’s proposals to convert a car park into a 166 bedroom bunker hotel underneath the St Giles Hotel were heavily criticised by local residents who called Camden’s rejection of the plans in January a “victory for good sense.”

But now the application will be heard again in front of a government inspector who will hold a hearing, most likely, this autumn.

The public can make comments on the appeal until 9 June 2016 through the Planning Inspectorate website.

Site Address: 112A Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3NP.
