Fitzrovia will have only one Post Office to serve more than 8,000 residents and tens of thousands of workers and visitors after the branch in the W H Smith store at the Plaza Centre on Oxford Street closes on Wednesday.

The only remaining Post Office serving the neighbourhood will be the Crown Post Office on the corner of Great Portland Street and Mortimer Street.
A notice in the window of W H Smith at the Plaza announces the store’s closure on Wednesday 8 June 2016. The sub Post Office inside the shop has a notice saying it will close “temporarily” and advises customers to use the nearest remaining branches at Great Portland Street and High Holborn.
Fitzrovia News understands that the Plaza Centre will close permanently for redevelopment and open with new shops but as yet there are no plans to reinstate the Post Office despite the “temporarily” statement.
Customers can find details of their nearest Post Office by using the “branch finder” at postoffice.co.uk. However, for some reason the “branch finder” does not list the Great Portland Street office. But the Royal Mail post office branch finder — royalmail.com/branch-finder — seems to work better.
