An exhibition of portraits by Kevin Davies who photographed David Bowie over the course of a single day will open at the Fitzrovia Chapel in March.

Davies had photographed Bowie to create images to promote the album Black Tie White Noise. The shoot took place at a studio in Clerkenwell on Sunday 13th December 1992.

With a selection of the images subsequently approved by Bowie for press use, Davies placed the original rolls of film, contact sheets and prints in storage where they stayed for almost 30 years.

In 2020 he opened the boxes to reveal hundreds of perfectly preserved film negatives. This original collection of 450 images captured a then 45-year-old Bowie, in the prime of his life, styled for Black Tie White Noise, plus a series shot late in the day when Davies asked to capture Bowie “just as you are.”

On display at the Chapel will be 20 of those photographs with another selection of images presented as diptychs and triptychs.

The exhibition is curated by journalist, author, cultural historian and Bowie fan, Dylan Jones.
