Considerate Constructors Scheme notice on a site in Fitzrovia.
Some sites adopt the voluntary Considerate Constructors Scheme but often ignore noisy working restrictions: Photo: Fitzrovia News.

Noisy work from construction sites should only take place between 8am and 6pm from Monday to Friday, and between 8am and 1pm on Saturday.

No noisy work should be done on Sundays and public holidays — including Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday.

Yet on Good Friday, which is a public holiday, several construction sites were in operation, on both the Camden and Westminster sides of Fitzrovia, with workers either using machinery or moving scaffolding.

Sites under the “Considerate Constructors’ Scheme” are often just as bad as those who have not adopted the voluntary guidance.

The only exception is when permission by the local authority is given for operations like the delivery or removal of a crane.

If the noise is happening on a site in Camden you can complain via the council’s website.

For sites operating in Westminster use the council’s noise reporting service.
