Children’s literacy charity Doorstep Library is looking for volunteers to support its work in the London Borough of Camden.
Doorstep Library recruits and trains reading volunteers to go into under-resourced areas of London and beyond, to help introduce young children to the pleasure and benefits of reading.
Volunteers read and engage with families and bring books for the children to read at home between sessions. Sessions take place in-person or online where volunteers assess the most appropriate books for every child they visit and build a relationship with the whole family.
Its Camden bases are situated in Euston and Somers Town. Volunteers work in pairs and visit families to run weekly reading sessions from 4:30pm to 7pm during term time.
The sessions take place on the same evening each week (Thursdays for Euston and Mondays for Somers Town) and last approximately 20 minutes. Detailed training is provided.
