As part of the first ever Indie News Week, independent news publishers from across London will today discuss how to save local news.
Indie News Week is the first of its kind and is being organised by the Public Interest News Foundation with events across the UK.
The decline of the corporate model of local news has left many areas in London with little or no news coverage but independent publishers are stepping in to fill the gap.
Independent publishers covering eight London boroughs talk about why they do what they do and what needs to change to enable new models of local news to grow.
Speakers include:
- Darryl Chamberlain – The Greenwich Wire
- David Floyd – Social Spider Community News (Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Newham, Waltham Forest)
- Tabitha Stapeley – Social Streets (Tower Hamlets)
- Chair – Roxanne Persaud, Goldsmiths
And others to be announced.
