A book with the title "Glorious Summer, happy and healthy ageing" on a table.

Local author Wendy Shillam has today published a book on the science of ageing which offers a prescription for making the best of growing old.

Shillam has spent most of her working life as an architect and town planner and she helped set up the Fitzrovia West Neighbourhood Forum.

Then in later life she qualified as a clinical nutritionist gaining an MSc from University College London. She started writing the book during the 2020 Covid lockdowns when she had time on her hands.

The finished work — Glorious Summer: Happy and Healthy Ageing — is a thoroughly researched guide to living well and staying healthy as we age. It contains a useful list of references for further reading after every chapter and has a comprehensive index.

Shillam told The Fitzrovia News: “In the book I suggest people expand their diets, eat more protein, more variety and improve the nutritional quality of their food.

“It is having fun that will keep us going, not sitting grimly in front of a lettuce leaf or pounding away at the gym for hours and hours.”

Glorious Summer: Happy and Healthy Ageing, by Wendy Shillam is published by Say Tomato! and priced ยฃ12.99. The 360 page book is out now and available from bookstores, directly from the publisher, or through Bookshop.org
