Filming is due to take place in Fitzrovia outside 55 Whitfield Street on Friday 13 September, with a large number of crew vehicles and equipment occupying the surrounding streets in parking bays, and a road closure will be in place.
Notices have gone up for film trucks and equipment to be located in suspended parking bays in Whitfield Street, Tottenham Street, Scala Street, Chitty Street, Charlotte Street, Fitzroy Street, and Goodge Place 24-hours-a-day on Friday 13 September.
There will be “minor preparation” works taking place in Whitfield Street during Thursday 12 September.
A letter sent to residents and businesses on Friday 6 September indicates that vehicles could be arriving in the early hours of the morning of Friday 13 September, and warns that there will be generators stationed around the neighbourhood.
“To power the trucks, we will use a mixture of battery units and generators, no generators will run overnight. We are using the cleanest, quietest, Stage 5 generators which have significantly reduced emissions than traditional film generators,” say location managers Ruby Whitelock and Georgia Jones.
Whitfield Street carriageway be closed between Tottenham Street and Chitty Street from 7am to 6pm on Friday 13 September, and the footways will have intermittent closures during filming between 9am and 3pm.
The film shoot is for a Paramount+ television series called “The Department”. The 10-part production is “inspired by contemporary events and offers a fresh take” on the French spy thriller “Le Bureau”.
“The story follows the daily lives and missions of CIA and MI6 members, focussing on an American intelligence officer who is mysteriously recalled to London after years abroad,” states the letter sent to residents and businesses.
Filming is due to finish at 3pm on Friday with all vehicles removed by 6pm. Permission to film is given by Camden Film Office.
Editor’s note. This article was updated on Saturday 7 September 2024 with new information about the filming and parking of vehicles and equipment, after a second letter about the filming was received.
