Horace Lindezey’s ‘We Are Gathered Here Together’, at the Fitzrovia Chapel

Horace Lindezey’s solo exhibition “We Are Gathered Here Together” is showing at the Fitzrovia Chapel from today until 16 October 2024.

Lindezey makes much of the three crucial stages in life: births, marriages and deaths. His obsession with weddings started when he was a teenager, after attending his first one aged fourteen in 1980. The special occasion of a wedding brings together all the things he loves — travelling, meeting new people and getting dressed up in one of his favourite suits.

Weddings inform the centrepiece of this exhibition: a wedding banquet table set for 24 guests who Lindezey has fond memories of watching get married on TV, such as Kylie and Jason and Pat and Frank Butcher. The table is complete with handmade ceramic plates, porcelain flowers, etched glasses and embroidered napkins and chair backs, all depicting phrases the artist is known for.
