Westminster Council has confirmed bin collection dates for Christmas 2024 and New Year. The council said there will be no kerbside collection on Christmas Day, which is a Wednesday.

Instead, residents whose regular collection day is Wednesday will have to wait for a special run on Saturday, 28 December.

Kerbside collection will run as normal on Thursday, 26 December and Wednesday, 1 January 2025.

There will also be no collection on Christmas Day for residents who use the councilโ€™s on-demand food waste service. Collection slots remain available as normal for Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Yearโ€™s Eve and New Yearโ€™s Day. This service is available for residents in “suitable” properties in St James’s, Marylebone and West End wards.

Westminster Council said residents can use local neighbourhood food waste bins in the following areas:

  • Luxborough Street junction with Marylebone Road, Marylebone ward;
  • Marylebone High Street (next to The St Marylebone CE School/Cavendish Health Centre) micro-recycling centre, Marylebone ward;
  • Marylebone Road opposite Council House/outside Old Town Hall, Marylebone ward
  • Moxon Street junction with Aybrook Street, Marylebone ward;
  • Paddington Street, opposite Paddington Street Gardens/Chiltern Place, micro-recycling centre, Marylebone ward;
  • Weymouth Street junction with Great Portland Street (157 Weymouth Street) micro-recycling centre, West End ward;
  • Wigmore Street junction with Welbeck Street, West End ward.

Commercial waste and recycling services will run as normal, which means businesses can rely on their waste being collected on Christmas Day and New Yearโ€™s Day.

For those looking to recycle their real Christmas tree, they can visit any of the 25 recycling points in the borough. You can take your tree to a drop-off point from the start of Thursday, 26 December, 2024, to the end of the day Sunday, 19 January 2025.

Opening hours are 8am to 8pm unless they are in parks, which close at 4.30pm. Residents are urged to remove all decorations, stands and netting from the tree before bringing it to a recycling point. These trees will be recycled and turned into woodchip and soil improver.

If the tree is under two metres or if itโ€™s made of plastic, you can present it for your regular waste collection with a yellow sticker, which can be ordered from Westminster City Councilโ€™s website.
