Those royalists living in Fitzrovia who tune into BBC One to watch King Charles III on Christmas Day may notice his surroundings are vaguely familiar.
For the monarch’s traditional festive address was recorded at the Fitzrovia Chapel in Pearson Square earlier this month.
“We are honoured and thrilled that His Majesty The King has chosen this very special place from which to deliver the Christmas Message,” said the Chapelโs director, Madeleine Boomgaarden.
“After it has been seen in the broadcast in countries across the world, the Chapel will bask in some limelight, and we hope this means that more people will be able to discover for themselves this beautiful space for quiet reflection, discovery and celebration. We look forward to connecting with ever more diverse communities in the coming months,” she said.
The Chapel is the only remaining part of the Middlesex Hospital which was demolished in 2008. It was designed as the hospital chapel by architect John Loughborough Pearson and built in 1891-2. The interior was completed in 1929 by his son, Frank Loughborough Pearson.
The Grade II* listed building now stands as a centrepiece of a commercial and residential development and is used for exhibitions and community events.
