National Park City has this week opened a pop-up visitor centre on Mortimer Street in Fitzrovia to showcase how it wants to make London “greener, healthier, and wilder”.

London became a National Park City in 2019 with the support of Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

While it does not have same status as a National Park in the rest of the UK — it is not a planning authority — its designation champions wildlife habitats, tree planting, improving biodiversity, and a commitment to embrace the natural environment which we can all enjoy.

The visitor centre, which has opened on a temporary basis on the site of a former coffee shop, is open “most afternoons” from Monday to Friday and “by appointment” and will remain at the temporary location until at least July this year.

At the centre you “can get to know the London National Park City team, purchase a copy of our London Urban Nature Map and pick up a copy of our Maker Paper — version two of which will be hot off the press by the end of the month”. Events will also be hosted, including film screenings.

With the summers in London getting hotter it is more important than ever to green and cool the city with tree planting and protecting nature.
