A series of guided walks exploring the medical marvels of Fitzrovia, with a bit of architecture and history of the neighbourhood thrown in, are being offered this spring and summer.
Learn about the medical discoveries at University College Hospital and at the now demolished Middlesex Hospital on the other side of Tottenham Court Road.
“We’ll talk about the discovery of the hormone aldosterone, early identification of HIV, novel cancer therapies and growing mini eyes to understand blindness among other medical marvels,” says walk leader, Dr Ann Robinson who teaches at University College London Medical School and has featured on BBC radio as well as writing for the British Medical Journal, and the Guardian newspaper.
Robinson was born in London, studied, gave birth and worked as a junior hospital doctor and most recently as a GP for homeless people. As a guide she specialises in the London Borough of Camden.
