Incorrect maps showing the extent of the Oxford Street Mayoral Development Area north of Tottenham Court Road station have been replaced with correct versions, Sir Sadiq Khan’s office has said.

Two different maps of the MDA were published as part of the public consultation which was announced at the end of February.

The incorrect map was widely distributed and appeared on several news sites including The Fitzrovia News (now corrected) and the London Standard (uncorrected).

A reader got in touch with The Fitzrovia News to ask why one map included two city blocks bounded by Morwell Street and Adeline Place east of Tottenham Court Road, while another version showed the red line of the MDA bypassing the buildings north of Great Russell Street.

The map published in error showed the red line of the MDA making several turns down streets to the east of Tottenham Court Road and south and west of Bedford Square.

The Fitzrovia News contacted the Mayor’s office to ask for an explanation.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London gave no apology for publishing misinformation — nor did they thank our reader for pointing out the error — but instead offered the following response:

“The proposed Mayoral Development Area we are consulting on stretches from one block east of Tottenham Court Road along Oxford Street and includes Marble Arch in the west. To maximise the benefits of the regeneration, the proposed MDC boundary includes some surrounding streets.

“The incorrect map has now been removed and replaced with an updated high-res version.โ€

The public consultation will run until Friday 2 May 2025 on the proposed establishment of a new Mayoral Development Corporation, which will develop plans to pedestrianise Oxford Street.ย Have your say on Oxford Street Transformation.
