The Woolff Gallery is to leave Charlotte Street having spent nearly 18 years putting on art exhibitions, and will open new premises later this summer.
An announcement on the gallery’s website says: “After almost 18 years at 89 Charlotte Street the developers have arrived and the Woolff Gallery is relocating.
“The gallery is fully stocked and open at 89 Charlotte street until Saturday 14 June. We currently have a huge selection of artworks available to view.
“We look forward to inviting you to our new space over the Summer.
“Until this time we will continue to arrange viewings or bring works for you to view in-situ, please contact us to arrange,” they say.
Founded by Nick Woolff, the gallery arrived on Charlotte Street when there were only around 15 art venues in Fitzrovia, ahead of the wave of new exhibition spaces that flocked to the neighbourhood between 2008 and 2012.
Over the years The Fitzrovia News has featured many of the artists and exhibitions at the gallery and it has been one of the longest running galleries in the area, lasting well after other venues which came and went with the ebb and flow of Fitzrovia’s changing art scene.
The Fitzrovia News understands that the Woolff is still finalising its future site but it could mean they will be leaving Fitzrovia.
“We will be really sad to leave the area after all this time!” said Nick Woolff.
