Organisers of a stand up comedy event taking place this month at Whitfield Gardens have written to people surrounding the public open space to thank them in advance for their “patience and understanding” from any disruption that might be caused.

Stage 81 CIC, a Camden Town-based non-profit organisation, says the free event on the corner of Tottenham Court Road and Tottenham Street “will feature live music, stand-up comedy performances by local residents and past students of our creative courses, as well as food and refreshments provided by local businesses”.

It will take place from 12noon until 8pm on Saturday 29 November.

“This celebration aims to bring together members of the community and promote access to free training and performance opportunities for young people across Camden,” say Marcus Williams and Frederick Richardson of Stage 81 in the letter delivered to local people.

For the event, Tottenham Street will be closed from 11.30am until 8.15pm between Tottenham Court Road and Whitfield Street and parking suspensions will be in place.

The stage area will be on the south east part of the park in front of the Fitzrovia Mural and the northern side will be open as usual.

“We are working closely with Camden Council and local authorities to ensure all noise levels, safety measures, and licensing requirements are met. The event will include trained staff, SIA-certified security, and first aid provision.

“We understand that events like these can have a temporary impact on the local area, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to make it a safe and positive experience for everyone.”

Stage 81 told The Fitzrovia News that the event will operate under a Temporary Event Notice licence and have around 20 to 25 short five minute performances and there will also be a DJ and two singers performing.

“Weโ€™ll have volunteers and a SIA badge security stationed near the stage and bar, all other areas of the park will remain open for pedestrians at all times.”
