A former long-time Fitzrovia resident has been chosen as an ambassador by her town in Devon as part of a French cultural exchange.
Artist Fiona Green, who lived in Tottenham Street for many decades before moving away, has been appointed to represent Totnes in its twin town of Vire in northern France.
However, Green is undergoing treatment for bowel cancer and is unable to travel. Instead, twelve of her paintings will be put on display in the town, which is in the Calvados department.
โI was so honoured to have been selected as the sole artist to represent Totnes in France that it was a double blow to learn that I could not attend myself due to my treatment,โ she told the Totnes Times.
Green is planning an exhibition, named “And Death Shall Have No Dominion”, which will open in Totnes in May 2026, and then go on display in Fitzrovia at the Coningsby Gallery, Tottenham Street, a short distance from where she used to live.
