Westminster Council rubbish and recycling over Christmas 2025

Westminster City Council has confirmed bin collection dates for this Christmas and New Year season.

The council said there will be no kerbside collection on Christmas Day, which is a Thursday. Residents whose regular bin day is a Thursday will instead have a special collection on Saturday, 27 December.

There are no changes to collections on Boxing Day or New Year’s Day. If you have multiple collections a week for mixed recycling or household rubbish, you will not receive a special collection on Saturday, December 27. Instead, residents are being advised to use other regular collections that week.

There will be no on-demand food waste service on Christmas Day. This impacts residents living in suitable properties in St James’s, Marylebone and West End wards.

Collection slots are available as normal for all other days during the festive period. Residents in Fitzrovia West can use the local neighbourhood food waste bins located at the micro-recycling centre on the corner of Weymouth Street and Great Portland Street.

Residents looking to get rid of their real Christmas tree are being urged to visit any of the borough’s more than 25 recycling points. The nearest to Fitzrovia West are at Cavendish Square, on the pavement near the existing recycling site, and Soho Square, east entrance to the square next to the existing recycling bins.

Remove all decorations, stands and netting from the tree before bringing it to a recycling point. Trees taken to recycling points will be turned into woodchip and soil improver.

You can take your tree to a drop-off point from Saturday, 27 December 2025, to the end of the day on Sunday, 11 January 2026.
