The Fitzrovia Community Centre in Foley Street has thanked everyone who responded to its recent fundraising appeal with news that the target has nearly been met.

“We wanted to update you and let you know that we have almost reached our target of ยฃ12k to save the Fitzrovia Advice Service — a lifeline for some of the most vulnerable people in our community,” says Donna Yay, Community Centre director.

Earlier this month the Community Centre issued a plea for donations to fund a welfare and housing advice service which was at risk from closing due to the end of a grant.

As of today, more than ยฃ10k has been raised of the ยฃ12k fundraising target.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and shared the campaign so far. Please keep going and help us reach our target!” said Yay.

In an email to subscribers and supporters, Yay also corrected some misunderstanding which led some residents to believe that the whole community centre was in danger of closing.

Fitzrovia Community Centre itself is NOT at risk of closing. We are very sorry for any confusion and worry our last email might have caused. The Community Centre is very much in full swing and all our activities continue as normal,” she wrote.

In a boost to the generosity of local people, Camden Council has also made a grant after a successful application by the Community Centre.

“We are delighted to announce that we have just received a grant from Camden Bloomsbury and Kings Cross ward which means we will be able to keep the service running for the next six months.

“This is great news, but we are not out of the woods yet — beyond that, the future of the service still remains uncertain so please continue to share our campaign and donate if you are able.”
