For the Soho Society hustings on Wednesday 29 April all local election candidates for City of Westminsterโs West End ward were invited.
However, only the Conservative and Labour candidates attended.
โWe did not get a response from the Liberals or Green Party and Reform accepted the invitation but did not turn up,โ said the Soho Society.
There was a lively but polite discussion with lots of audience participation and questions on noise, Oxford Street pedestrianisation, alfresco eating and drinking, licensing, Soho Parish School and housing.
Meanwhile across the ward boundary in Marylebone, which is a Conservative party stronghold, only candidates from Reform UK, Liberal Democrats and the Green Party showed up at the hustings held two days earlier.
Organised by the Marylebone Association, debate was very civilised with residents asking thoughtful questions, and there were โopen, respectful conversations about the issues that matter most to our communityโ, said one attendee.
