‘Restoring the Balance’ with Amanda Burrell – film and Q&A

Documentary producer and presenter Amanda Burrell will be at a special screening and discussion for the film “Restoring the Balance”, at the Yunus Emre Institute in Maple Street, Fitzrovia this week.

Part of Al Jazeera’s Earthrise series, the 25 minute programme explores what role Islam can play in tackling the environmental crisis.

Environmental charter — Al-Mizan: A Covenant for the Earth — is inspiring action across continents since its launch in 2024 at the United Nations Environment Assembly in Kenya.

From grassroots projects in the United Kingdom and water-stressed communities in Jordan, presenter Amanda Burrell follows its journey over the course of a year.

Along the way, she meets ecotheologians, farmers, faith leaders, and youth activists all drawing on Islamic principles of stewardship, justice, and balance (“mizan”) to protect the planet. As climate and nature breakdown intensifies, could Islam help restore harmony between humanity and the natural world?

The screening will be followed by a talk and live Q&A with Amanda Burrell, where she will share insights into the documentary and its wider themes.
