Tiffany Watt Smith, author of The Book of Human Emotions, will be speaking at an event in Maple Street, Fitzrovia this month.

Her work explores the hidden cultural frameworks that influence how we experience and express our feelings. Focusing in particular on the shifting meanings of happiness and joy across time, she reveals how emotions are far from fixed, and how their histories can transform the way we understand ourselves and others.

Her latest book Bad Friend: A Century of Revolutionary Friendships was published in 2025.

In 2019, she was awarded the Philip Leverhulme Prize, and her research has been recognised by the Wellcome Trust, the British Academy, and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
