Fitzrovia is again a district for the London Festival of Architecture, with more than 20 events across the neighbourhood throughout June.

The festival is supposed to celebrate the district: championing its historic mix of artists, designers, independent thinkers, and its many architectural practices.

Its lively streets and public spaces are also known more recently for being filthy, sticky underfoot, strewn with bursting bin bags, and there is a strong whiff of fried food from early morning until late at night.

Then there’s the constant demolition and construction work that always seems to extend beyond the permitted noisy working hours.

One of the projects seeks to “Find Fitzrovia” — it’s here somewhere among the rubble, and you can probably smell it a mile away.

A dropโ€‘in handโ€‘sewing workshop celebrates the secret lives of Londonโ€™s wildlife and the ways they share our city.

You can re-imagine Fitzrovia through collage in a hands-on weekend workshop, using Dada-inspired techniques, where participants can create visual interpretations that re-envision the neighbourhoodsโ€™s unique alphabet of people, places, and symbols.

Looking to the future, you can expect lively discussions about a neuroinclusive sustainable future, and explore ideas with built environment professionals through creative thinking and writing.

There’s a free, light-hearted guided walk offering a mix of history with a fair sprinkling of stories and memories from being a Bobby on the Beat in this area some 55 years ago.

And queer scholars and practitioners will guide focused discussion on what counts as a queer space, how existing London spaces can be queered through everyday practices, activism, and policy, and where future research might go.
