Owners of a commercial building at the southern end of Whitfield Street are planning to make alterations to it by creating a new roof terrace and changing the frontage, according to a letter sent to local residents.
“We are acting on behalf of CBRE Investment Management, the owner of the existing office building at 6-10 Whitfield Street,” say planning consultants DP9 in the letter sent this month.
“We are keen to engage with neighbours and local groups at an early stage so that you have the opportunity to understand the proposals and share any comments before the application is finalised.”
Plans include a new roof terrace and staircase on top of the fifth-floor, alterations to the existing fourth-floor roof terrace, and replacement of the existing glass panels that are a distinctive feature of the building which is near the junction with Windmill Street.
Use of roof terraces by commercial occupiers can be a source of noise pollution to residents nearby due to the way sound carries in Fitzrovia’s narrow streets.
“The terrace has been carefully designed with extensive planting, screening and set-back distances to safeguard the amenity of neighbouring occupiers and would deliver a net improvement in greening across the building,” states the letter.
Ahead of planning application to be submitted to Camden Council, DP9 are offering to show the plans and answer any questions local people may have states the letter.
“Please contact Zaza Cooper at zcooper@dp9.co.uk and we will be glad to make arrangements. Should you have any comments, we would be grateful to receive them by 7 July so that they may be taken into consideration ahead of submission.”
