Fitzrovia Youth in Action (FYA) is to leave its offices in Warren Street, moving out of Fitzrovia to new premises in Stanhope Street in the Regent’s Park Estate, to take over the running of another youth centre.

In a letter sent to residents in Warren Street, Andre Schott chief executive of the charity, wrote saying: “FYA has taken over the management of one of Camden’s largest youth centres: the Samuel Lithgow Youth Centre.”

FYA has been at Warren Street for nearly 25 years.

Its new headquarters at SLYC is located at 69-75 Stanhope Street and is a long-established site, opened in 1967 at the heart of Regent’s Park ward serving the entire West Euston area.

Earlier this year the charity that was running SLYC faced “cash flow pressures” and its trustees approached Camden Council for urgent support, according to a council report.

In July the trustees of SLYC had to wind up the company, after discussions with Camden which led to FYA agreeing to take over.

The financial history of SLYC showed that it had an annual income of around ยฃ150k but an expenditure of over ยฃ200k according to its last annual accounts.

FYA by contrast had an income of over ยฃ1mn and showed a small surplus at 31 March 2025.

“We want to acknowledge the incredible dedication of current and past SLYC staff, who worked tirelessly all these years to keep the centre going and serve local families,” said Schott in an announcement on FYA’s website.

“We are delighted to welcome many of the previous SLYC staff team into the FYA family. We look forward to working together in developing the Centre as a youth-led community space from where young people create lasting benefit for themselves, each other and the wider community.”

FYA says its activities at the Warren Playground will continue as usual and will hold its annual street party on 15 August.
