Short stories of science fiction inspired by local people will be read by actors at a special event at The Fitzrovia Chapel in September.
The performance invites you to step into the year 2055 through a series of custom-made stories imagining what will London and Fitzrovia will be like.
A collaboration between Fitzrovia Futures 2055 and Liars League, it showcases a number of stories that have been in development this year.
The stories to be featured are:
- “Fitzrovian Basmati” by Stuart Hotston will be read by Kim Scopes.
- “FAQs About Conversion” by Emma Levin will be read by Patsy Prince.
- “Welcome to Fitzrovia” by Yen Ooi will be read by Rose Biggin.
- “The History Bricks” by Stephen Oram will be read by Dan Starkey.
- “The Joyful Playground” by Sumayyah Janan Rahman will be read by Katy Darby.
- “Appendix Witness Interviews Transcripts” by Ana Sun will be read by the whole cast!
- “A Tale for a Tourist” by Penny Walker will be read by David Mildon.
“With family and work connections to Fitzrovia, I was delighted to be involved in this project exploring what this beloved area of London might look like in the future. Touring the area with current residents and learning more of its history was inspirational, especially when it came to thinking about how it might continue to be home to people in the years to come,” says Stewart Hotston, chair of British Science Fiction Association and author of Fitzrovian Basmati.
“Community involvement in future related decisions is usually around immediate and specific issues. With our stories, we’re opening up a 30-year horizon of imagination, told in everyday terms,” says Stephen Oram, local resident, near-future fiction author and project co-lead.
