Join the Friends of Crabtree Fields and Camden Council’s nature conservation team for an hour one in evening in September to discover the secret world of London’s bats.

The event is one of a number on offer this autumn organised by the Friends group (see poster below).

Using bat detectors, participants can listen to the different frequency echolocation calls, and with a bit of luck see bats flying overhead at Crabtree Fields after sunset.

You will need a torch (your phone torch is perfectly adequate) and suitable clothing. The walk is weather dependent.

While there are no dedicated children’s activities, the event is suitable for ages seven years and older.

As this is an inclusive wildlife event dogs are not permitted, with the exception of assistance dogs.

A number of planting, cleaning and watering sessions will take place this autumn: planting daffodils, crocus, bluebells, snowdrops and other bulbs followed by tea and biscuits.

Over the summer a series of successful children’s events were held.

“We had a total of 19 children participating from All Souls Primary School who learnt about gardening and biodiversity by planting seeds, watering plants, and surveying bugs, etc,” said the Friends.

“We are still looking for funds for plants, bulbs, on-going insurance and more children’s
sessions so please email (crabtreefriends@gmail.com) if you would be interested in donating.”

Bat Walk in Crabtree Fields, 7.30pm, Wednesday 2 September 2026, Crabtree Fields, 19 Whitfield Street, London W1T 2AT. Admission: Free. Book a place here.

Other events include Tea in the Park (Saturday 17 September); and planting and cleaning until the end of the year (see poster below).
