Owners of a luxury boutique hotel due to open in the summer have asked Westminster Council to approve a premises licence allowing a 24/7 service for staying guests in Newman Street, Fitzrovia.
The high-end establishment, which was given building consent in 2018 and is nearing completion, also wants to operate a modern European-inspired brasserie and a cocktail bar for hotel guests and public walk-ins seven days a week. The venues would operate until midnight most nights, according to the licensing application.
The Newman Hotel, located at 49-57 Newman Street, is expected to have 81 rooms, including a penthouse suite with a large private terrace, and a “wellness area”. There will also be five one-bedroom apartments accessible via a private street entrance.
Applicant, Kinsfolk & Co, hopes to open its doors to the public in the summer and it will become the hospitality management companyโs first hotel.
It is not clear how much it will cost to hire a room or use any of the facilities as Kinsfolk & Co has not yet released a price list.
The establishment is also said to pay homage to writers and poets who lived in Fitzrovia, like political activist and British heiress Nancy Cunard, who had devoted her life to fighting racism and fascism, according to the hotelโs website.
The application has received push back from a group of residents who say the opening hours would lead to a noise nuisance in the area. They wrote: โThere are a considerable number of residents living immediately opposite the hotel along the northern part of Newman Street.
โThe application site did not previously have a premises licence. The existing residents are living in mansion blocks which have been in residential use for decades.โ
Kinsfolk & Co seeks permission for a number of licensable activities including live music, film, and the sale of alcohol to non-residents of the hotel to drink on the premises from 7am to midnight, Sunday to Thursday; and from 7am to half-past midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The representation against the application has asked the closing time for the public areas to be set earlier at 11.30pm Monday to Thursday, midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 10.30pm on Sundays.
A Westminster Council licensing sub-committee will consider the application on Thursday, 27 February.
