Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd has this month closed its long-standing store at 15-17 Tottenham Court Road and re-opened at a much smaller location nearby.

Earlier this year The Fitzrovia News reported the supermarket chain was “reviewing” its operation on Tottenham Court Road.

It had submitted planning and licensing applications to Camden Council for a new premises a short distance to the north at 21 Tottenham Court Road (also known as Unit C, Tottenham Court Walk) a shop unit less than half the size.

In our previous report Sainsbury’s had issued a brief statement to our press enquiry, saying: “Due to the lease expiring, we are reviewing our future plans for our Tottenham Court Road Local.”
