A new cycleway along Cleveland Street in Fitzrovia is largely complete but won’t be finished until property development construction sites along the street have been completed and additional funding is found.

The joint project by Camden and Westminster councils to provide a cycling contraflow through the middle of the neighbourhood will when finished connect a number of routes making it easier for cyclists to navigate Fitzrovia’s one-way traffic system.

It has been progressing in stages with a number of new zebra crossings to improve conditions for pedestrians already completed as part of the project.

Due to be finished this year it is now delayed until 2027 or 2028, according to a document published this month by Camden Council.

A report for Cllr James Slater, cabinet member for a sustainable Camden, states that an application for ยฃ100k has been submitted to Transport for London (TfL) to ensure completion of the final 300 metre section of scheme on the Camden side of the street between Howland Street and Tottenham Street which “due to development sites” cannot be completed until 2027 or 2028.

The cycleway will have a protected contraflow lane running south from the junction of Maple Street with new cycle lane traffic signals at the junction of Goodge Street and Howland Street.
