Much excitement for many residents in Fitzrovia this morning as M&S Food opened their new and much larger store on Tottenham Court Road.

In January we reported that M&S Food was to open a new store on a site previously occupied by Sainsbury’s who decided to move to a smaller premises.

An M&S spokesperson told The Fitzrovia News in January they were โ€œexcited” about the move to a larger location on the same street, “enabling us to offer our customers a much wider range of delicious, great quality M&S Food and guaranteed trusted value”.

One resident, who lives in Warren Street, complained it was further to walk but the shopping offer at the new store was “worth the extra effort”.

There were no balloons or silly gimmicks on offer this morning, just a business-like welcome to new and regular shoppers who eagerly explored the shelves of the larger store at 15-17 Tottenham Court Road.

Along with Lidl at the northern end of the shopping street — which also replaced a Sainsbury’s — M&S Food is a welcome improvement to Fitzrovia’s grocery offer.

In April 2024 Tesco opened a much smaller store on Goodge Street.
